Athens, OH 1902PB $10 Ch.#10479, Serial Number One
The Bank of Athens, Ohio Serial #1 1902 Plain Back $10 Charter #10479
This attractive Serial Number One Note is the finest surviving large-size note among only seven examples known from the third National Bank established in Athens. There are very few 1902 Blue Seal #1 notes known to exist among all the banks of Ohio. Although likely saved and preserved since issued to the bank and not likely to have actually "circulated", the note has been graded as Choice Very Fine (PMG-35) due to a few folds and evidence of having been "previously mounted. The note exhibits good color and margins and the hand-signed signatures look strong and fresh.
