A very historical item of 19th century political and financial Americana. The only example of this one five hundredth unit denomination that we have seen. The engravings of both front and back deserve a close look. Serial Number 691, XF The Labor Exchange was a worker's cooperative organized in 1890 by G.B. DeBernardi. The notes could be exchanged for labor or for goods produced by labor that were stored in central warehouses. In spite of significant growth, the collective enterprise failed in 1901. SOLD
