Plymouth, Ohio, Ch.#1904, 1875 $1, VF, PMG-25

First National Bank of Plymouth, Ohio, Charter #1904, 1875 $1, Very Fine, PMG-25

This note is of the first of two banks in the Richland County town of Plymouth. It issued only large-size notes as it went out of business in 1908, before the small-size era. This is a pleasing example with unusually fresh looking penned signatures of the President and Cashier. The front looks like that of a higher grade note. PMG has undoubtedly kept the number at VF-25, rather than the VF-30, or even VF-35 that one would assume, because of the light wallet stain in the second quadrant of the back. The stain is light, rather unoffensive, and does not show through to the front of the note.

This note was once held in the collection of famous numismatist and author Q. David Bowers and is on record as having sold at auction twice over the years, once realizing $1265.00 and another at $1955.00
