State Bank At New Brunswick, New Jersey, 1860s $5, Choice CU, PMG-63 EPQ
This New Jersey note, engraved and printed by the National Bank Note Company, circa 1860, is one of our favorite examples of high quality 19th century bank note production, with multiple ornate and well executed vignettes. A less than perfect bottom margin is all that keeps this note from a Gem designation. The very ornate and color back also disguinshes this note from the run of the mill obsolete (especially southern notes of the Civil War period). It is fully embossed. As a remainder, it does not bear a serial number or the signature of the Cashier. However, it was hand-signed by the President, whose signature appears as fresh as if he signed it today.
