Fr.2300, 1935A $1 Hawaii WWII Emergency Issue Silver Certificate, Rare F-C Block, GemCU, PMG66-EPQ

In the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor and in order to prevent the use of United States currency by enemy forces as a result of a successful invasion of the Territory of Hawaii, the government printed a special series of notes for use on the islands. The One Dollar notes were issued as Silver Certificates with distinctive brown seals and serial numbers, rather than blue, and with the word "HAWAII" overprinted on the front and (very prominently) on the back of the note.

These notes were issued under eight different serial number blocks, the most common being the S-C block for which 15 million were printed. Six other blocks were printed in lesser numbers, but each of those were also printed in the millions of notes. However, the F-C block was printed in the relatively miniscule number of only 12,000 notes! They remain relatively scarce today, especially in Gem condition. This beautiful example has been certified genuine and graded "Gem Uncirculated 66" by Paper Money Guarantee. It is one of only six notes achieving this lofty grade, with only two higher, and will be an important addition to any paper money collection.
