Scarce Value Back Type Note!
Grand Rapids, MI, Ch.#2611, 1882 Value Back $20, Fr.581, ChVF

The Fourth National Bank of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Charter #2611, 1882 $20 Value Back, Fr.581, Choice Very Fine. This note is graded Very Fine-30 by PMG (and looks even finer) and also comes with a PCGS label from a prior grading (PCGS Choice Very Fine-35).

The Fourth National issued only large-size notes as it was in operation only from 1882 to 1926. The beautiful note represented here is an exceptional example of the popular and elusive $20 Value Back type. It has excellent margins, bright colors and strong signatures of the President and Cashier. It is listed as Extremely Fine in the census and appears to well meet that designation at first glance.
Value Back notes of this quality are hard to come by, regardless of location. We are fortunate to be able to offer this wonderful example as well as a superior $5 note from the same bank.

There are few more than a 700 twenty dollar Value Back notes known for the entire country, and only 16 in all grades for the entire state of Michigan. This note is one of the finest for the state, with only four reported to bear slightly higher assumed grades. It is the finer of only two twenties reported for the bank and visually far superior to the other.
